چکیده
to either vascular occlusion or rupture of vessels with subsequent bleeding and neurologic deficits. Stroke secondary to vascular occlusion may occur in the venous drainage of the brain, sinovenous thrombosis (SVT) or in the arterial supply to the brain, arterial ischemic stroke (AIS). Parenchymal damage or infarction of the brain occurs commonly as a squeal of AIS and less commonly of SVT[1]. Stroke is a rare event in childhood. Several figures estimated the incidence at 0.6-1.2 per 100.000 children per year[1]. Figures from Turkey, are hospital based studies indicating that one out of 170 hospitalized pediatric patient experience thrombosis; of which stroke compromises almost one third of the total thrombotic patients[2,3].

T102C polymorphism of the serotonin (5-HT) 2A receptor gene in Turkish children with cerebral infarct.
Platelet-dependent thromboembolism is an underlying mechanism in the pathogenesis of stroke. 5-HT2A receptor gene is expressed in human platelet, coronary artery (blood vessels) and brain. A polymorphism T102C at the 5-HT2A receptor gene was found that may possibly affect the 5-HT2A receptor function. As there is no existing data on T102C variant of 5-HT2A receptor gene in pediatric stroke, we ...
متن کاملEndothelial Protein C Receptor and Pediatric Arterial Stroke
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the endothelial protein C receptor (EPCR) gene A3 haplotype and plasma soluble EPCR (sEPCR) levels in Turkish pediatric arterial stroke patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analyzed 44 pediatric arterial stroke patients and 75 healthy controls. Following DNA isolation, genotyping of the A3 haplotype was determined via PCR and RFLP. Additionally...
متن کاملTumour Necrosis Factor-Alpha Gene Polymorphism (-308 G-A) in Turkish Pediatric Thrombosis Patients.
Tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) plays an important role in clot formation by activating platelets, monocytes and endothelial cells and inducing procoagulant substances such as negatively charged phospolipids or tissue factor. There is a genetically controlled inter-individual variation of TNF-a production. Carrying TNF2 allele could have a slight protective effect against the occurence of ...
متن کاملTwo year-old boy with ischemic stroke
Arterial ischemic stroke (AIS) in adults is considered a serious health threat and requires urgent medical treatment. Prompt diagnosis allows the therapeutic option of thrombolysis within the time window of 3 to 6 hours after first symptoms. Alternatively, early anti-platelet therapy is effective in improving the outcome after stroke. The incidence of pediatric AIS range from 2 to 5 per 100 000...
متن کاملValidity of Modified Ashworth Scale as a Measure of Wrist Spasticity in Stroke Patients
Objectives: There are some controversies about the value of modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) for assessing spasticity. The goal of this study was to investigate if there is any correlation between scores obtained from MAS for wrist spasticity and electrophysiological recordings as the objective measure of spasticity. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 34 stroke patients were employed. Wris...
